The newer version (UniFAB 3.0.2.9) has much improved timing for displaying subtitles.
However, in the version that I wrote about above, I was able to give Subtitle Generator and entire season to convert, the newest version crashes after the second title has been made ready for conversion. I thought it was probably something I did. I tried it about 5 times, using different files from the same season (Gunsmoke, season 6) and got the same crash each time.
I then tried a different tv show, thinking it may be a problem with the videos in the season. I went to “Tales of Wells Fargo”, which I used previuosly, so, I know it isn’t the quality of the video. It still crashed while preparing the third title. This may not be the worst problem I’ve encountered, but it requires me to constantly check to see if it has finished generating subtitles it was working on. It makes the project take longer. I’d like to be able to feed Subtitle Generator and entire season, the way it did in the earlier version.
However, the problem I mentioned above, about Subtitle Generator changing the words being said in the video still exists. I’m, again, working with shows set in the mid 19th century. Very few of the characters speak good English, and the Subtitle is continuing to correct the grammar being used on screen. I want the subtitles to say the same words the character is speaking on screen. It is clear to me that the application understands what is being said because the meaning of the words is the same, but it detracts from the enjoyment to be reading different words than those being said. After all, this isn’t an app for listening to a phone call. The choice of words matters.
Please pass these comments on to the programming staff working on the Subtitle Generator.
Thank you,
Mike
