HDR 4K VRAM > 12GB

I have seen user Ctrl-Z comment, “We will reduce the idle VRAM requirement in future updates to better support 16GB VRAM.” I would like to use HDR-4K but that can’t be done with an RTX-5070 with 12GB VRAM. Will the VRAM requirement drop low enough to use a 12GB 5070?

Hi everyone, thank you for your interest in the VRAM requirements of the HDR 4K model.

To better support users with 16GB graphics cards, we’ve recently lowered the VRAM threshold for the HDR 4K model to 12.5GB.

I’d also like to share some recommendations regarding model selection: The HDR 4K model performs best when processing native 4K video sources. However, if your video source has a lower resolution (e.g., 1080P), we recommend choosing the corresponding model (such as the FHD model). Overusing the 4K model may not provide significant quality improvements and can put more strain on your hardware. 12.5GB is a threshold we’ve set after rigorous testing to ensure relatively stable operation.

We understand the demand for 12GB graphics card support and have added it to our roadmap. We’ll conduct testing as soon as possible to assess the feasibility of further reducing the VRAM threshold, aiming to enable more users to use HDR features smoothly.

Ctrl Z does not really work, the best is to reboot the computer and start over, or even worse disable drivers, reboot and enabled again. Even with this 16GB does not always work…
Hopefully, the VRAM requirement will be lower soon…

This is the user you know as “Ctrl-Z.” Just wanted to clarify that Ctrl+Z is just my nickname, not a reference to the operating system shortcut. The VRAM threshold is written into the program code and cannot be changed through operating system operations.

If your graphics card (for example, a 12GB VRAM card) cannot meet the current 12.5GB free VRAM threshold, then even restarting your computer or disabling programs will not solve the problem.

As we mentioned before, we will test 12GB graphics cards as soon as possible to assess the feasibility of further reducing the threshold. We believe we will have a conclusion soon. Thank you for your patience!

The current requirement for using the 4K HDR model is to have more than 12.5GB of free VRAM available. Your RTX 5070 Ti has 16GB of VRAM, which theoretically meets this requirement. We recommend checking the actual free VRAM on your system and closing other applications that might be consuming VRAM to free up space. Then, please try using the 4K HDR model again. This will ensure that your GPU has sufficient resources to support high-quality video conversion.
