I had high hopes that version 4.1.3.0 would finally fix the converter, but unfortunately it still does not work at all.
It is frustrating that the core product many of us originally purchased 15 to 20 years ago has now been broken for months, while updates continue to focus on new features. I stood behind DVDFab for a long time, and moving to UniFab was already a rough transition. At first it was working and reliable, but in my opinion it is now far from that.
How can long-time, loyal users be expected to try new products or spend more money when the tools they already paid for do not work? I would actually like to try the new series feature that keeps being pushed in the software, but there is no way I would pay for it when a basic convert function still does not work. That is especially frustrating when the feature I originally paid for is now labeled as “FREE.”
I also feel like the developers may not be using the product in the same way many customers do. For example, if they stacked a dozen files into Convert, assuming Convert worked, they would quickly see that everything has to be configured one by one. The removal of the queue window is also frustrating. You can no longer add videos to the queue while it is running, which was a useful workflow feature. Another irritating issue is that after each file completes, the interface switches from the queue window to the finished or completed tab, forcing the user to manually switch back every time.
My last point is about metadata and forced subtitles. It is now 2026, and video metadata should be handled properly. UniFab actually does a good job detecting subtitle metadata and can clearly identify subtitles marked as forced. However, after output, the forced flag is gone. That means I have to open the file in MKVToolNix and manually set the forced flag back to “Yes.”
This becomes a major problem when processing large batches. If I drop in 200 episodes from a series and only three of them have forced subtitles, I now have to check every file manually. It became so irritating that I wrote a simple PowerShell script just to scan a folder and tell me which files have subtitles flagged as forced.
These are not minor convenience complaints. These are basic workflow and reliability issues in a product that many long-time users depend on.
