Hello everyone,
I’m currently working with UniFab All-in-One to restore a very old black-and-white film from the 1940s.
The source material is heavily noisy and soft, but I want to keep it 100% authentic — no overdrawn or artificial “AI faces,” just natural sharpness and clarity improvements.
I’d like to find the best processing order of the UniFab modules to achieve the maximum detail, contrast, and smoothness without losing the original film look.
Here’s the workflow I currently use:
1. Denoise AI – remove dust, grain, and flicker
2. Face Enhancer AI – reconstruct and improve facial details
3. Smoother AI – stabilize motion and generate intermediate frames
4. RTX RapidHDR AI – refine lighting and contrast
5. Upscaler AI (4K) – final sharpening and detail enhancement
All modules (except the Upscaler) run in Standard Video Quality mode.
The Upscaler uses Quality-Optimized (4K) mode with H.265 codec and original audio.
Could someone please confirm if this is the ideal order for restoring old black-and-white films?
And are there recommended settings to increase sharpness without making the image look artificial or digitally redrawn?
Thank you very much — I’d like to keep the footage as natural and realistic as possible.
